| Audiotron Remote for PHP ver. 0.51 | Control Your Audiotron from Any Web Browser on the Web |
| Audiotron Remote for PHP is a web-based application to control a Turtle Beach Audiotron by clicking on an image map of the actual Audiotron Remote. To the extent that Turtle Beach's existing HTTP API allows it, the original functionality of the Audiotron Remote has been retained with some added bells and whistles. If you know how to use the actual Audiotron Remote, then you know how to use Audiotron Remote for PHP with a web browser. The actual application must be loaded on an Apache web server which is running PHP. You access the application using a standard web browser such as Internet Explorer. If you have a networked Windows XP machine and Audiotron in your home or office, you have all the hardware you need! Just keep reading. This site will explain how to add the necessary software components to get Audiotron Remote for PHP running quickly. | |

| If you already have a web server running PHP or if your web hosting company provides similar functionality, you can skip this step. Otherwise, we have a companion site that includes all of the necessary software and detailed instructions for loading and running an Apache web server with PHP using any garden-variety Windows XP machine at no cost. Just click here and follow the simple instructions. | |
| Some Gotchas | The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly |
| There are a few limitations with the Audiotron application programming interface (API) and the Audiotron unit itself which you need to be aware of since these have some impact on use of this software. First, for whatever reason, the Audiotron unit is never really OFF except when the switch on the back of the unit is turned off. And then it's really off, i.e. the actual remote cannot be used to turn the unit on. Assuming the back panel power switch is on, there currently is no way programmatically to identify when the front panel power switch is in either the off or on position. Since the real remote can toggle the front panel power switch and display off and on, I'm not quite sure why this couldn't be incorporated into the API, but it hasn't been so here's Gotcha #1: If a song is playing and you click the Power button on the Audiotron Remote image, it will switch the front panel off. If the front panel power is off and you click the Power button, the application will switch the front panel on. But, if a song is not playing and you click the Power button, the front panel display will not be turned off. Again, the reason is because programatically the software cannot decipher the true state of the Audiotron since "front panel off" and "front panel on but Audiotron not playing" both report the unit as being "Inactive." Gotcha #2: More of a prerequisite than a gotcha, but your Audiotron unit must be upgraded to version 3 of the Audiotron firmware. You can check the firmware version of your unit by clicking on the Firmware link under Software with a web browser pointed to your unit. Click here to download the version 3 firmware from Turtle Beach. Gotcha #3: You'll need to eliminate your Audiotron log-in password to use this software. For home use behind a firewall (hopefully), this is no big deal, but it's essential at the moment because I'm not smart enough to write the necessary code to send the password to the unit every time we want to get some information. Just blank out both passwords in the Web Server link under Settings and save your changes using a web browser pointed to your Audiotron unit. Gotcha #4 only applies to Mac users with the Safari web browser. Safari 1.0 has a bug which prevents automatic loading of subordinate web pages. This is critical to the functioning of the six buttons below the word "Audiotron" on the remote: Title, Artist, Album, Genre, Net, and Lists. If you want to use these buttons from a Mac, you'll need to use Internet Explorer as your browser. I may rework this functionality at some point to eliminate the need for automatic page loading but, as of now, it's a Safari deal-breaker. | |
| Bells & Whistles | Ain't a Web Browser Great! |
| Aside from virtually all of the functionality of the original Audiotron Remote, this web application provides several great additions. Clicking on the words "Turtle Beach" on the remote will display all of the songs in the current play queue. And, clicking on any of the six buttons below the word "Audiotron" will bring up an alphabetized listing by either Title, Artist, Album, Genre, Net, or Lists. Once the listing is displayed (it takes about 1 second for every 200 entries in any particular listing), it can be browsed, or you can click on individual entries to add them to the current play queue. | |
